My April 28, 2021 defense may not have looked like this picture (this is a pic from a talk I gave at the Pardee Center in 2016), but there were perks to defending over Zoom. In a pandemic silver lining, instead of being attended only by those who could make it to campus, the defnese had viewers from five countries: the United States, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. I'm so grateful to everyone who was there to watch and support, and of course to my advisor, committee, and lab mates.
